Sennheiser has released a streamlined portfolio of its HD 25 pro headphones. The refinements see the addition of two new models.

The HD 25 Light is the entry-level version for cost-sensitive users looking for a good pari of mixing and monitoring headphones. It features a simpler headband design and slightly different drivers, with a 60Ω impedance and maximum SPL of 114dB.

The HD 25 Plus is identical in design to the HD 25 but includes extra accessories and two cables (coiled and straight). It also comes with a storage pouch and a second set of ear pads.

In other Sennheiser news, the company unveiled AMBEO 3D audio technology at CES. 3D immersive audio is increasingly becoming a format of choice in professional recording, mixing and listening. AMBEO 3D audio was demonstrated to CES visitors in its dedicated 9.1 listening room, where people were invited to bring their own stereo material, have it upmixed via Sennheiser proprietary algorithm and replayed in 9.1 sound.

Sennheiser’s 3D audio technology is also being features in gaming audio, with gamin specialist Soulpix drawing on the company’s experience for its virtual-reality game EDEN. Through a proprietary Sennheiser algorithm, the sounds in the game are easily localisable and transport the listener to an imaginary yet realistic soundscape.
